Process Details

The CD (Cold Drawing) process begins with the pickling followed by pointing then drawing on the draw bench and finally straightening. The Dimensions are controlled within the specified tolerance on the CD mill. We can also supply precisely cut to length bars. We have also installed Muffle furnace, Microscope, Jominy end quench apparatus to test hardenability.

Shot Blast (Pickeling )

The feedstock is hot rolled bar, either in bar lengths or coil and the first operation removes surface scale and rust that is inherent in a hot rolled product, and would have a deleterious effect on the drawing operation if allowed to remain.

Pointing

The next stage is that of pointing the bar end to facilitate entry into the tungsten carbide drawing die. This operation is also known as "tagging".

Drawing

Developments in draw bench ancillary equipment include push pointing apparatus, which forces the bar though the die by means of hydraulically powered grips, and where the section size permits, tagging becomes unnecessary. In either event, after entry into the die, the bar end is gripped in bogie jaws and drawn along its length, being automatically released at the end of the process. This does not remove metal, but elongates the bar. Cold finished steel bars are true to shape. They are drawn through precision dies which effectively control the shape to be produced, i.e., round, hexagons and squares.

Straightening

After the bars are drawn, it requires a process to straighten the bars. It feeds out easily in machining and works efficiently in the reels. Higher revolutions pre minute are practicable because of less machine vibration with cold finished steel.

Polishing

The straightened bars are now fed into the polishing machine which cleans the surface of the bars, yielding a smooth and accurate surface of bars.

Collection Rack

After straightening, bars are covered with a thin film of rust protective oil and if necessary suitably packed for transport to their eventual destination. Cold finished bars are available to European, American and Global standards as well as, in specific circumstances Customers' private specifications. .

Grinding

To meet the accurate tolerance of less than .01mm of the customer requirement, the next process is to grind and meet the accuracy.

Testing

The straightened bars are now fed into the polishing machine which cleans the surface of the bars, yielding a smooth and accurate surface of bars.

Delivery

Strip packing of 200 kg to 2500 kg in a bundle as required. Gunny Bags are used to cover the material which are bundled. Finally, after the final test, the material is dispatched to the customer.
